Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy explains how Local Media Player ("we," "us," or "our") collects, uses, and protects your information when you use our Chrome extension. We are committed to ensuring your privacy and complying with the Chrome Web Store Developer Program Policies.
1 Information We Collect
Local Media Player is designed to operate locally on your device for offline media playback. However, to provide our "Safe Video Streaming" security feature, we collect limited, non-personally identifiable data:
- URL Data: We collect and analyze the specific URLs of media files you stream or download. This collection is strictly limited to media-related URLs and is necessary to perform real-time safety checks against known malware sources.
- Local Storage: The extension utilizes your browser's local storage to save your playback preferences and settings. This data remains on your device and is not transmitted to our servers.
We do not collect personally identifiable information (PII) such as your name, email address, physical address, or generalized browsing history.
2 How We Use Your Information
The information we collect is used exclusively for the following purposes:
- Security & Malware Prevention: URL data is analyzed solely to warn you of or block potentially malicious media sources before they can execute within the player.
- Core Functionality: To ensure smooth playback of supported formats (MKV, MP4, WebM, AVI, MP3).
- Performance Improvement: To identify bug crashes or playback errors without associating these events with individual users.
3 Chrome Web Store Limited Use Disclosure
Local Media Player's use and transfer to any other app of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Chrome Web Store User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements. We request access to host permissions (<all_urls>) and tab/network data strictly to enable the malware-scanning functionality of the "Safe Video Streaming" feature.
4 Data Sharing and Disclosure
We respect your privacy. We do not sell, rent, trade, or lease your data to third parties. We do not use your data for targeted advertising or user profiling. Data may only be disclosed if required by law or to respond to valid legal processes.
5 Data Security
We implement industry-standard security measures to protect the limited URL data processed during safety checks. URL analysis is conducted using secure protocols, and we do not retain logs of your media URLs after the real-time security check is completed.
6 Your Choices
You have full control over your local data. You can clear the extension's local storage at any time by clearing your browser data or by uninstalling the Local Media Player extension.
7 Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect changes in our practices or Chrome Web Store policies. We will update the "Effective Date" at the top of this policy when changes occur.
